About Us

Boğaziçi University Coastal Engineering Laboratory was founded by Dr. Osman Börekçi and Dr. Emre Otay in Kilyos Campus in 1999. Our goal is to develop sustainable engineering solutions for coasts and coastal waters. Along this goal, we conduct research and train students with engineering skills including design, planning and management in coastal waters and areas. Graduate Students have a chance to work on environmental fluid mechanics, sediment and contaminant transport, numerical modeling, stochastic processes, port and harbour engineering and coastal structures. Our R&D projects include wind, wave and ocean energy, maritime traffic monitoring, risk analysis, tsunami propagation, meshless methods for numerical modeling of waves and currents, smart breakwaters, oil spill modeling, marine dredging, beach nourishment, seawater air-conditioning and renewable energy supported desalination.
